- - - - - OWW's Solutions - - - - -
Like almost anyone else, I really do have the solutions to everything that's wrong in the world today. Especially after attending the local street fair, The Woodbine Crawfish Festival, where I ate an entire Bloomin' Onion AND a Polish Sausage with peppers and onions. I polished off the day with a couple of cold ones in the luxury of my own garage while watching lightning and pouring rain here in SouthEast Georgia. Greedy, ain't I?
Anyway, here's some of my solutions to various issues. Mind that these are solutions articulated by someone else, invariably a much better writer than I am, hence the links to their essays.
ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION - There are very real social and monetary issues connected to illegal immigration, particularly from Mexico. MICHELLE MALKIN HERE. My own opinion is that if we don't control our own borders, if we don't determine who can or cannot enter the US, we lose all right to call ourselves a "sovereign nation".
TAXES - For the past several years I've used a computer program to do my annual Federal and State income tax returns. I should bill both governments at my professional rate ($60/hr) for that service. $49.95 for the cost of the software, $180.00 for the time required. Lessee, that makes $229.95, right? HERE is a good idea that certainly needs some serious public debate. WARNING: If you're a "tax professional", lobbyist, or politician, this is bound to give you some serious heartburn. The very idea makes me weep real tears.
HATE CRIME LAWS - Useless, discriminatory, and widely abused by various people wanting to draw attention to themselves or their various causes. See HERE, and HERE. Besides which, just who appointed law enforcement and and judicial system to be mind readers? I mean, really, can those folks actually read minds? And since when should it be illegal to hate/despise/dislike someone else for any reason whatsoever? If I spray-paint my neighbor's fence with an objectionable phrase, should I be charged with vandalism, or if the phrase is defined as "hate", should I get a stiffer penalty for the same crime? THAT, my friends, is, in and of itself, discriminatory.
I expect I'm gonna get hammered for that last one.
Now, if the weather clears up a bit, we're going to hit the Shrimp Festival down in Fernandina Beach. More food, to excess! Wheeeee!
