Today is Memorial Day. We fly the flag, and remember those who have fallen in our country's cause.
Some years ago, at a park in Sunnyvale, CA, I overheard an older gentleman speaking to a boy of 6 or so about the flag. The short speech went something like this:
"The white stars and stripes, for the pure truth and intent of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution."
"The blue stripes and the blue field for fidelity; for being true-blue to our ideals."
"The red stripes for Our Boys who paid for us all, in full."
