- - - - - Suing Over Salt? - - - - -

So, the FDA is being sued. Again. See the story HERE.

But this time, WE (the PEOPLE are the gov't, remember?) are being sued over table salt!

We like using salt to flavor things up. Salt on buttered pop-corn. Salt on home-smashed potatoes. Salt on a bird's tail...We. Like. Salt.

The CSPI (Center for Science in the Public Interest) doesn't like what we like. The CSPI wants to regulate salt.

More than two decades after a similar lawsuit was dismissed, the Center for Science in the Public Interest is trying anew to get salt categorized as a food additive.

The change would give the Food and Drug Administration more authority to regulate salt in food, whether through warnings on packages and menus or mandatory or voluntary limits. Salt is "generally recognized as safe" by the FDA now, leaving it less regulated.

"Comrade! Where is your permit for that salt shaker? No permit? Gulag for you!"

Asshats.

As the Mrs. has pointed out, HERE, I'm a pretty much a believer in Darwin's Theory, as applied to human behavior. I favor the legalization of many things that the Nanny-ites among us have persuaded the Federales to make illegal and/or subject to safety regulations.

Drugs - Legalize 'em all. Not just coke/smack/grass, I mean everything. If someone wants to self-prescribe, go right ahead, Joe. And if you're wrong, too flaming bad. If you're smart enough to consult a decent physician, you'll live a lot longer. Granted, the death toll in the first few years will be fairly large - but the improvement in the gene pool will be enormous! And the amount of money spent by the DEA could definitely be spent on other stuff. And the drug gangs would just...disappear (I hope).

Helmet Laws - Get rid of 'em. That way you can see who the dummies are right away.

There's other things, and I'll get around to 'em some other time.
