- - - - - "Peaceful, Non-Violent" Protest Has Backlash! - - - - -

Gawd....I love THIS!

In spite of the "war-mongering" and "violence-ridden" reputation the US seems to have gathered, I just can't see this kind of thing happening at, let's say, the New York Stock Exchange, or the Chicago Mercantile Exchange - can you?

When 35 Greenpeace protesters stormed the International Petroleum Exchange (IPE) yesterday they had planned the operation in great detail.

What they were not prepared for was the post-prandial aggression of oil traders who kicked and punched them back on to the pavement.

“We bit off more than we could chew. They were just Cockney barrow boy spivs. Total thugs,” one protester said, rubbing his bruised skull. “I’ve never seen anyone less amenable to listening to our point of view.”

Another said: “I took on a Texan Swat team at Esso last year and they were angels compared with this lot.” Behind him, on the balcony of the pub opposite the IPE, a bleary-eyed trader, pint in hand, yelled: “Sod off, Swampy.”

Cockneys 1, Greenpeace - >1 (factoring in sore heads)

Y'think they got peeved at bad manners? Good for the guys working at the IPE! Double points for style!

- - - - - Tulsa "Whirled" Doesn't Like Bloggers - - - - -

Speaking of people getting peeved...it would appear that the only daily newspaper in Tulsa, OK, has a thing about bloggers. Typically, a blogger will see something of interest in a news story, grab a excerpt to show as an example, and provide a link to the whole story, if anyone's interested enough to want to see the whole thing.

Michael Bates (HERE), recently received an Official Letter (HERE) telling him to cease and desist from quoting and/or linking, or he Will Face Dire Consequences!

Mr. Bates takes note of the letter, posts the whole thing, and then delivers a rather pithy comment about the "Fair Use" doctrine of US Copyright law.

I went to the "Whirled" site and did a search for Michael Bates - and didn't find a blessed thing. So, I've just provided a link to the "Whirled" in several places. Hey, guys? Send me one of those letters, will you? I promise, I'll frame it and place it a prominent place.

As a matter of record, I used to link deep into the San Jose Murky Gnus site, and flay them pretty good over perceived short-comings in their coverage. Never got one of those nasty-grams from them, either.

Now that I live in Georgia, I haven't yet gotten peeved at the Georgia Times-Tribune, which is a daily put out in Jacksonville, FL. At least, not yet. Of course, their coverage of South Georgia sucks, and the other paper, the Tribune and Georgian, which comes out twice a week, doesn't have a web-site.

There! I've put in enough links to make someone mad, I hope! C'mon, guys, send me a Nasty-Gram!
