- - - - - More On Blogs, Eason Jordan, and Dan Rather - - - - -

So, Bloggers are a menace, and a threat to "free speach"?

We don't have "fact checkers" - like Dan Rather.

We aren't "professional" - like Eason Jordan. (Sorry - but I couldn't pass it up!)

Stephen Baker, at Business Week, has a slightly different take...and a suggestion for those who think they have ideas to contribute.

Is there a way to ensure that the growing blogosphere embodies our highest ideals and not our worst fears? Jump in. The more people who add sensible voices to the ongoing debates, the less power the angry fringe will exert. Responsible bloggers on all sides should keep busier than ever policing other blogs, documenting untruths and exaggerations. The best way to gain a measure of control over this flood of information is to contribute to it.

Read a blog or two and post a response. Better yet, start your own.

I've read that the MSM (Main Stream Media) has been the "gatekeeper" for so long that they've become arrogant, and believe themselves to be above criticism. More importantly, they believe that since they are the MSM, whatever they opine is, by definition, "fact".

When they are called on it, and reminded rather forcefully that "opinion" is not "fact", they are mightily pissed.

Well, that's just too bad. When "we" catch them out in a lie (Dan Rather), or unfounded and unproved accusations (Eason Jordan), then "we" will call them on it. "We" are the fact-checkers for the MSM, and "we" are holding their toes to the fire. And "they" don't like it.

Tough.

And no, "I" am not part of "we". I'm just a guy who likes to run his mouth.
