- - - - - Employer's Blog Policy - - - - -

I work for a LHITWCS (Little Hole-In-The-Wall Computer Store) and a SGO (Small Governmental Organization), both part-time.

OWW's policy has always been: Don't write about work except in the most general of terms.

I haven't asked either LHITWCS (Little Hole-In-The-Wall Computer Store) or SGO (Small Governmental Organization) about their "Blog Policy", and I'm not about to, either.

As for my "side jobs", fixing/tuning PCs for people outside of LHITWCS (Little Hole-In-The-Wall Computer Store) and SGO (Small Governmental Organization) - I don't talk about them at all.

After reading THIS STORY, I did a little digging around.

Ellen Simonetti, aka "Queen of Sky", was canned by Delta Airlines for putting a pic of herself, in uniform, on her blog - see her story and the pics HERE.

She has proposed that companies clearly define their policy on "blogging", which seems reasonable to me - especially if they're going to can you if you violate their non-existent policy.

And then I did about ten seconds worth of real thinking, after which I determined that so much effort (the thinking, I mean) required a little nap.

- - - - -

So, after the refreshing little nap, here's what OWW does or doesn't do:

1. I don't mention any names. Not even made-up names.
2. Except in the most general way, I don't talk about my two employers. Nothing negative, nothing positive.
3. I don't talk about my outside customers at all.

I daresay that some day, someone who lives in the same area I do is going to connect the dots and figure out that "OWW" is "That guy! I know him!" And there won't be any blow-back on me.

Well, there might be, if that someone is a spammer, or runs a spy-ware company, or is an author of computer viruses and/or worms. Spammers are scum. Spy-ware people are slime. Virus/worm/trojan authors are lower than roaches. They, personally, aren't worth the snot that I'd like to blow right in their faces (yes, I've got a small cold, and I'm feeling cranky). And if you are one of these...people, and I've insulted your intelligence, morals, personal hygeine, and number of legitimate parents, go ahead - since I'm feeling cranky, I'm ready.
