- - - - - The NY Times' Tradition - - - - -

The Tradition of the NY Times seems to be arrogance. Frequently enough, that arrogance not rooted in reality.

For instance, 'way back on January 13th, 1920 they printed this little gem, on page 12:

That Professor Goddard with his 'chair' in Clark College and the countenancing of the Smithsonian Institution does not know the relation of action to reaction, and of the need to have something better than a vacuum against which to react--to say that would be absurd. Of course, he only seems to lack the knowledge ladled out daily in high schools.

Of course, my particular brand of arrogance tends to run in very narrow channels. Within those channels I'm actually pretty good (and no, I'm not going to brag on them now). Outside of those channels I step very, very carefully, and even so, I'm frequently reminded that I don't Know Everything. In fact, both of my big toes are in a semi-permanent state of soreness, from stubbing them so frequently.

"And just what brought that on, Ward?"

Just generally feeling semi-snarky.
