Now that I'm (gasp!) 55 years old, I've been reflecting a little bit on why I want to work.

There's the money, of course - the sincerest form of "Hey, you do good work" is getting paid - that's a "tangible" form of reward, and right now, the primary reason for taking a job.

Then there's the stuff that I call "intangible", in that you can't touch it, see it, or taste it. Other folks call it "job satisfaction", but for me, that's an inadequate descriptor.

There's a lot that goes into OWW's "intangible" considerations - first among them is "Is this a job that I want to do?" For what I do (repairing/building/teaching about PCs) the best thing in the world is when the PC's owner/user sees that everything now works right - and if all goes really well, nothing is lost. I've seen customers dance a little jig with a big goofy grin when I've managed to save their data AND get their PC up and running. THAT's what I call "job satisfaction".

On the job-related front, my friend John Dominik finally, after much travail, has a job that will (A) Feed his "tangible" need - a decent paycheck, and (B) Feed his "intangible" need - doing a job that he really wants to do. See his post HERE.

Congratulations, John. And yeah, I'm just a little envious....
