OK, so this guy is feeding the cops info on the folks who have been doing a series of burglaries. And the burglars don't like, and shoot the guy while he's standing in the parking lot of a shopping center. And the MALL is responsible?

The last time I looked, a shopping center supplies space for the various stores to operate, keeps the sidewalks and parking lot maintained, and that's about it. Unless the shopping center already provides security, in which case the shopping center might be liable if their security dude wasn't doing his job - and even that would be a stretch.
