The Associated Press has a story on milblogs HERE. The story looks to me to be fairly well done, with no major inaccuracies that I could see from a casual look.

One of the points that reporter Ellen Simon makes is that the military is kinda schizo as far as the individual writer is concerned - some commanders don't care as long as operational plans aren't disclosed, other commanders think anything not under their direct control is a threat.
