- - - - - Hurricane Frances Update - - - - -
According to this NOAA chart, Frances is going to paste central Florida and miss OWW's place (AKA The Swamp) entirely. I'm not taking this as gospel - hurricanes are notoriously fickle. If Frances takes a hard right after clobbering the Bahamas and churns up the coast, we could be in for a very rough time. Not likely, but you'd better believe we're keeping a wary eye on this monster.
My parents-in-law left Cocoa Beach yesterday evening at about 7:30PM and arrived here at about midnight. Cocoa Beach to The Swamp is usually a 3 hour drive. After working all day yesterday doing what they can to hurricane-proof their house, and then driving up here, they're exhausted.
Bro-in-law, his Mrs, and their 2 kids are coming up from Cocoa (just inland from Cocoa Beach) later today.
What a strange time this is for a guy from California. In California, I worried about earthquakes, which you can't see coming. Here in southeast Georgia, I worry about hurricanes, which you can see coming. If I've got to worry about something, I prefer hurricanes.
