- - - - - Hurricane Frances - - - - -

Frances is now rumbling her way across central Florida. Of personal interest is Cocoa and Cocoa Beach, where my in-laws live. Quite near there is Kennedy Space Center, which registered a wind gust of 124MPH earlier today.

Here at The Swamp, we've just started to see sustained winds of about 40MPH, with gusts to 55. Rain is coming down in sheets, and the power flickers every so often.

See the NOAA map HERE. The Swamp is located, roughly, at the Georgia/Florida state line, right on the coast (we're actually eight miles inland, but at the scale of the map, right on the coast works). The in-laws houses are on the east coast of Florida. On the NOAA map, look at the red zone. About a third of the way down that red zone, you'll see a bump - that's Cape Canaveral, where Kennedy Space Center is located. The in-law's houses are within 20 miles of that spot.
