- - - - - OWW's Reaction to a "Nuclear" Accident in Japan - - - - -
First, read the story HERE.
Now I'm issuing a challenge.
In the years since the US started up the first commercial power-generating reactor, how many people have been killed by released radiation at a nuclear power plant in Britain, France, Germany, the US, and Japan?
The answer is in the article above.
I have left out Chernobyl for a reason: the design of those reactors is nothing like the designs used elsewhere. It is a flawed design, and the Russians knew it when they built it. Russians, of course, do things their own way, and to hell with the folks living down-wind.
Fact nr 1: The US needs power, lots of it.
Fact nr 2: Nuclear power plants in the US have safety records that are much better than other commercial power-generating enterprises.
Fact nr 3: The zealots who have tied nuclear power up in knots for the last forty years have ignored, and continue to ignore Fact number 2 above.
Fact nr 4: Continuation of Fact nr 3 - those same zealots are placing people all over the US in danger from improper storage of nuclear waste by screeching about Yucca Mountain.
Grrrrr......

Mrs. OWW has been in the hospital for treatment of diverticulitis since last Thursday. Posting here will be on a catch-as-catch-can basis for a while longer.
Read about diverticulitis HERE.
Now, I'm off to the hospital to visit the Mrs.
