- - - - - Commentary on Iraq - - - - -
Now that Hurricane Charley has passed us by, I can reasonably turn my attention to other things, specifically, Iraq.
Dr. Pournelle makes a persuasive case HERE, with which I can agree. Further, I can see the parallels to Korea and Viet Nam. If the task we have taken upon ourselves is to be done, it should be done properly. And, now that we have taken the task, rightly or wrongly, it is incumbent upon us to complete it, and NOT screw around with al Sadr, who himself wouldn't make a pimple on a hard guy's behind.
From Dr. Pournelle:
Having started the final assault to put paid to that little upstart, and taken the casualties to be ready to finish the job, we are once again halting, letting them regroup, and "negotiating" with the "help" of "mediators". The Iraqi government is furious, of course. The Marines and Army are furious. Al Satyr will get away with it again.
And the worst of it is, no one likely to be elected would do it any different. |
War is a fearful business, and not one to be undertaken lightly. Once undertaken, it should be finished properly. The US is not finishing this thing off properly. In Korea we screwed around with the 38th parallel. In Viet Nam, it was called "Viet Namization".
Grrr.....
