We took a week off, and went to various places in North Florida just to look around.

We stayed at KOA Kampgrounds the entire time, which, with two small children, is a good way to go.

At St. Augustine, "America's Oldest City", we hit the beach, got hit by a humungo thunderstorm while dining at the Sunset Grille ("Somewhere on A1A" and a very good place to eat), and got rained on while walking to and from the showers.

The next day, we went to the Alligator Farm, which is actually a zoo and not a farm. The kids were very impressed by the alligator and crocodile exhibits, and fascinated by the feeding demonstration and the guy that walked amongst the alligators.

Lemme tell you about this maniac...

Just imagine climbing into a one acre enclosure with food goodies for critters with big teeth, and then calling one by name, and when said critter got within snapping distance, tapping him on the nose to get him to open his mouth, and then throwing a little tidbit into the mouth. Made an impressive "whomp" sound when the jaws slammed shut with a force of around 3,000 PSI. And the whole while, Bob the Alligator Guy is doing a running commentary...

Later in the week, we also went for an inner-tube ride on the Itchetucknee River, a tour of a chocolate factory, and a boat ride and swimming at Wakulla Springs, where various movies have been filmed, including a Tarzan pick with Johnny Weismuller, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Airport '77.

All in all, a good week, and a good break from routine. I didn't read a newspaper, didn't hear or see the news, and didn't even miss it. And, to judge by today's headlines, I didn't miss much at all - SSDD (Same "Stuff", Different Day).

In fact, I think I'll get a start on some vigorous loafing and fun stuff.... Have a good one!
