- - - - - D-Day - - - - -
Today is the 60th anniversary of D-Day.
The biggest military gamble the United States ever made, and it worked. Less than one year later, the late un-lamented Adolf was indeed "late". And the true evil of Nazi Germany was revealed to the world.
On the beaches of Normandy they fought their way ashore. Many remained, remaining always young.
We owe those who stayed, and those who soldiered on big time.
Now, our Old Soldiers are indeed old, and dying of old age. My dad is now 81, in good health, but still, he's 81. These guys won't be around that much longer.
So from today, when you see some old guy with medals and badges on his jacket on Memorial Day, or on Independence Day, or on Veteran's day, give him a handshake and a quick "thanks". He'll most likely look a little embarassed, and say that he didn't do anything special.
We know better, don't we?
