- - - - - Oh, My Aching Wrist - - - - -

I had minor out-patient surgery on Wednesday, to remove a cancerous patch on the outside of my right wrist. The surgery wasn't near the tendons and such, and the cancerous patch itself was "squamous cell carcinoma", not the really evil and nasty "melanoma".

I dunno 'bout that "minor out-patient surgery" part, though. It took 12 stitches to close me up again. Since I'm such a wimp about such things, I tend to regard any slicing and dicing requiring more than a band-aid to be in the "major" category. And no, it doesn't hurt, unless I do something stupid, like smack it into the counter as I'm walking through the kitchen. Then, it's whine, whimper, and swear.

- - - - - The Major Media - - - - -

On CNN, ABC, NBC, in the New York Times, the LA Times, even in my local rag, the Georgia Times Union, you hear the constant drum-beat of American abuse of Iraqi prisoners, you see the photographs. What you don't hear, and you should be hearing, is that the Military Justice system is working. Malefactors are being brought to General Courts Martial. The first one, Sivits, has pleaded guilty, and been sentenced to one year in the slammer, a Bad Conduct Discharge, and all forfeiture of pay. This should be praised to the rooftops. Only in America, and maybe Great Britain, would these proceedings be conducted in the open, for all to see that justice is done.

Would all this happen, out in the open, in Saddam's Iraq? In Iran? In Syria? In the Taliban's Afghanistan? In Russia? In China? In Cuba? In Nigeria? In Sudan? Not a chance.

Meanwhile, where's the outrage about the beheading of Nick Berg? I suspect it's in the same place as the mass graves filled by Saddam Hussein - since Americans didn't do it, no outrage, no continuous showing of photographs and video is required.

OWW's conclusion: The journalistic integrity of the major media is non-existent.
