OK, I've settled down a bit. I'm still ready to spit nails, but I'm no longer in Firing Squad temper.
Why was I so pissed off?
I'm an American, and Americans don't do that. It's that simple.
Each one of these low-rent idiot butt-brains needs to stand before a General Court Martial to answer for their alleged mis-deeds.
I shall elucidate: A "Special Court Martial" is limited in it's ability to impose punishment - The maximum punishment a special court-martial may adjudge is: confinement for 12 months, forfeiture of two-thirds pay for 12 months, reduction to the lowest pay grade (E-1), and a bad conduct discharge. A "General Court Martial" is limited to punishments specified in the Manual for Courts Martial, which can be a whole lot stiffer.
At the very least, each one of these warts on the ass of mankind could be convicted of Felony Stupid In Public, just for being stupid enough to let pictures of their miserable selves be taken.
Listen up, dammit. WE don't do that. WE are Americans. WE follow the rules. If we don't follow the rules, WE hammer the miscreants. Hard. And we do the hammering in front of the whole world.
Why do we do that?
Because we are Americans. Justice is public. The guilty are punished, for all to see. The not guilty freed, for all to see. Because that is the American Way.
That being said, so far the hammerees all seem to be enlisted personnel. Enlisted personnel are supervised by officers. Where are the officers? I think we should start with BG Janice Karpinsky. If she can defend herself, fine. If not, she gets hammered.
If she's innocent, after all of this publicity and all that, she should be demanding a General Court Martial. You can do that, you know, under the UCMJ, so that the whole world knows that you really are innocent. Of course, there's a risk there. If you're actually guilty, and seen to guilty, and actually found guilty...
You think I'm a little naive, expecting the military to act properly in these cases?
The fact is, these clowns were already facing charges by the time the "media" started paying attention. The Army knew that this was going to blow up in public. The Army didn't try to hide anything. And, the Army's big concern now is that justice is seen to be done.
