- - - - - Democrats and Military Service - - - - -

Harry Truman - WW1, Artillery commander, I think
John Kennedy - WW2, PT boat commander, Navy Cross
Jimmy Carter - Nuclear propulsion officer, USN, submarine service (trust me, a very exacting, demanding, and honorable service)
WJ Clinton - draft dodger, war protester. John Kerry says, in 1992, that his draft dodger status is immaterial.
Candidate Kerry - Viet Nam, Silver Star, 3 Purple Hearts. Questions about validity of at least one Purple Heart. Threw ribbons/medals ("absolutely interchangeable") away. Raises questions about GW Bush's National Guard service. Can't take a solid position - see WJ Clinton above.

What happened to the party of Truman, who was the last Democrat that was worth a good nickel cigar?
