- - - - - Air America Dropped From Two Stations - - - - -
From Yahoo News: The owners of Air America Radio filed a lawsuit in New York's Supreme Court against the New York-based MultiCultural Radio Broadcasting Inc. after the radio company dropped Air America Radio's signal from its stations WNTD in Chicago and KBLA in Los Angeles.
MultiCultural Radio did not return phone calls for comment, but the Chicago Tribune quoted the company's owner, Arthur Liu, as saying that Air America bounced a check to them on Wednesday. Air America claims in its lawsuit that its payments are up to date
Keep in mind, Air America had only five broadcast outlets to begin with. Now they're down to three, plus satellite radio and internet broadcasts.
I really hope that they can continue. We, as a nation, need competing points of view. Although I tend towards "conservative" views, I don't think that Limbaugh/Hannity/Medved/Boortz have all the correct answers. And quite frankly, they've had a free ride for too long. They're getting stale through a lack of vigorous competition.
- - - - - Taxes - - - - -
Taxes are done, thank goodness.
After all the taxes are figured, including Social Security and Medicare taxes, and doing a guesstimate on sales and gasoline taxes we wound up paying about 13%. If you figure only income taxes, federal and local, it's about 9%.
Which doesn't sound too bad.
In previous years, when we were both working (and both of us together making about the same amount of money as Mrs. OWW does now), our actual all-inclusive tax rate as figured above was about 28%, or 24% if you dropped off sales and gasoline taxes.
We don't make a fortune, but we're doing OK. And yes, the Bush tax cuts definitely have had an immediate fiscal impact on our family.
