Of course, you are aware that Martha Stewart was not convicted of insider trading. She was convicted of lying to Federal Officers.
She wasn't under oath.
She didn't lie on an official, signed document.
I don't like this at all. Since when are "Federal Officers" all-powerful beings to whom one must always tell the truth?

The notion that any random Federal Officer is so damned important that you must not lie to him is bizarre. Note I do not here refer to sworn testimony, whether under oath in court or before Congress, or in a sworn statement signed under penalty of perjury, where fair warning has been given. But if the cops ask you about your legal activities and you think you might be embarrassed by the real answer, why shouldn't you lie to them?
Especially if I think it's none of their damned business, anyway. Of course, I could tell 'em to go screw off somewhere, but then they'd probably charge me with "obstruction of justice", or some other damned thing.
As Mr. Heinlein said, "Public Servant equals Public Master".

Or...."Zero Tolerance" with no objective proof whatsoever.
Quick summary: A Savannah high school student has been suspended, charged with something called "passive participation" in the use of illegal drugs. A police dog smelled the kid's backpack and reacted, whereupon a police officer searched said backpack, and found papers, books, and the usual paraphenalia of a kid attending a high school - and no drugs.

So, where's the "due process". This kid is being deprived of educational days, based on suspicion, with no proof whatsoever.
