- - - - - Gay Marriage - - - - -

On an intellectual level, with one caveat, I'm all for it.

On an emotional level, as a normal male, the idea makes my skin crawl.

Why am I all for it on an intellectual level? Throughout human history, permanent bondings, carried out under the protection of law, have been a stabilizing influence on society.

My one caveat has to do with the application of law. Many states are "community property" states - whatever is earned and acquired during the time of the marriage is shared equally between the partners in the unhappy event of divorce. I'm not at all sure that the "gay community" has considered the implications of this.

Lissen up, folks, I've been through a divorce proceeding, and the subsequent legal hooraws regarding children, property, money, and all the rest of that crap. You guys are not going to be having a lot of fun with this.

On the other hand, you will be providing us straights who have been through divorce with plenty of ammo to say, "See? I told you so! I told you so!"

And just imagine the entertainment value of Ellen or Rosy going through a divorce.

I can just hear Carson, from "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" (Great show, by the way. Funnier than hell. Does anyone take them seriously?):

"Shop at K-mart? Don't use that kind of language around me! If I have to give up this much money to that, that...person, I'll be reduced to K-mart!"

Can you just see it on Court TV? Probably out-draw Jerry Springer.
