Israel is building a whopping great fence/wall to keep the barbarian bombers out.
This has one major effect, and two or three minor ones:
Major Effect: It's going to be lots harder for suicide bombers to get into Israel. The suicide bomber sponsors are pissed about that. Hamas and al Aqsa have been ranting and raving and trying to get international support to get Israel to not build that fence, because Hamas and al Aqsa want to continue sending insane suicide bombers. So, the Israeli body count will drop like a stone.
Minor Effect #1: There actually will be a separate Palestinian state. It will be on borders defined, unilaterally, by Israel. Entrance to, and exit from, Israel will be controlled by Israel. The UN will continue to bitch mightily that it's being ignored by those savage, nasty Israelis. The so-called "Right of Return" will be completely ignored by Israel.
Minor Effect #2: The new state of Palestine, which is already strapped for cash, will have whatever outside flow of money it has from Arab sponsors dry up completely. Result: a poor, internally violent dictatorship. Who the dictator will be is anyone's guess. I don't think Arafat will survive in power once that fence is completed.
