- - - - - Visitors to My Blog - - - - -
I put a counter on this blog 3 or 4 months back. As of right now (10:22 AM EST) that counter shows 399 (!) visits - including my own dozen or so. (Generating a post doesn't bump the counter. I take a look every so often to make sure the appearance is what I want it to be.)
If you do some adjustments based on the (probably) few consistent repeat visitors, does this mean I'm about to hit "break-through" and become as popular Citizen Smash? As hated as Kim Du Toit? As astounding as AcidMan? As nice a guy as John Dominick? Become a super-blogster like Jerry Pournelle, the Original Blogger?
Not a prayer, Bubba.
Will I ever be as cute as Rachel Lucas, or Key Monroe? Not even after I shave.
As literate as Jerry Pournelle, or Stephen Den Beste, or Chuck Whittle? Hah! Not even within shouting distance, yet. But I'm working on it.
So, why do I do this?
Just for the fun of it, mainly. After all, Mr. Clemens wrote that "Work is what a body is obliged to do...". And this blog ain't work, it's fun.
And...it streches me. I think a little harder, a little longer about my opinions. When I rant a bit, I really mean it, instead of just running my mouth to hear myself talk. When I'm amused, I work harder at making the amusement show through. When I'm serious, I try harder for clarity. When I'm pissed off, I work more at making the flame blister somebody's butt.
And, finally, I do this blog just because I can. This, folks, is the exercise of Free Speech, warts and all.
Like it says up at the top-left, "Old Weird Ward - A shining example of a deliberate pain in the neck. That's right, it's intentional. You don't like it? Don't read it."
Freedom of Speech is also Freedom of Reading. Or not, as you choose.
