- - - - - Iran Earthquake Aid Refused - - - - -
This is "opinion", not "news". It is commentary on the news.
The "news" part: One of the ayatollahs got up on his hind legs and said that Iran didn't need no stinkin' aid from the Great Satan.
The "commentary" part: Fine. We'll keep it here, in the States, and do something useful with it. No doubt, you old fart, you'd have kept the supplies to dole out to the selected deserving, anyway.
A point: If we wanted to "buy" your good wishes, there would have been a hook there, along with the aid. So far as I know, there was no hook. That makes you just about as stupid as you sound. Stupid torquewad.

We're still in the temporary housing provided by the LDC (Large Defense Company). We have to be out by 16 January. Since the temp housing is very expensive ($2300/month), we'll move into something else until the new place is ready, probably 5 Feb.
We put in a bid on the new joint, got a counter-offer, and we accepted. Now we just have to do the paperwork, make sure our old joint is really sold (note: phone call to Calif. Realtor tomorrow), line up the moving company to get our stuff out of storage and delivered, turn on the utilities at the appropriate date, get the homeowner's insurance and flood insurance set up, and the thousand-and-one other things we need to do.
I hate moving, and I'll be glad when it's all done.
On the other hand, we're going from a cramped 2-story townhouse with a tiny patio in California to a nice real single-story house (on an acre of land!) here in Georgia. With a real, fenced yard for one dog and two kids. And a ride-on mower - that acre of lawn needs a lot of cutting.
Although we're 'way out in the 'burbs of a small town, broadband is available through ComCast using a cable modem. After a little research, I'll be able to get the cable modem at the local Staples. Instead of paying the modem rental to ComCast, I'll buy it.
