- - - - - The Great Move - - - - -

Well! What a strange, exhilirating, terrifying journey it's been, so far.

Mrs. OWW and I debated leaving California for months. Pluses, minuses, upside, downside, positives, neggatives. We ultimately decided, for quite different reasons, that leaving California was the way to go.

My reasons were simple: California has been in a state of political melt-down for ten years, at least. The public schools suck. And it's just too damn crowded in San Jose. The crowding is why I left LA back in '75.

For the Mrs., things were a little more complex. She has family in San Jose and in Florida. She has job opportunities in the LDC (Large Defense Company) in California and Georgia. She absolutely despises the rush-hour traffic in California. We don't have any close friends in Georgia (yet).

After weighing everything we could think of, and debating endlessly into the wee hours over several months, we decided to Just Do It.

Then, things got REALLY insane.

For Mrs. Oww, it was:

Get the job in Georgia (six months elapsed). Move to GA without the hubby, kids, or Idiot Dog. Come back to SJ, get the kids, go back to GA. And wait.

For Mr. OWW, it was:

Deal with real estate people, which wasn't nearly as painful as it could have been. (Thank You Nancy!) Deal with the moving people, which could have been worse, but not by much. Get the carpets and kitchen floor replaced, which wasn't too bad. Deal with the Rotten Balconey, which is still an on-going PITA. Paint the place, which was a monumental PITA, but got done with the help of our good friends Dan and Sandy - actually Dan did almost all of the paint. Sandy and I stripped wall paper, and wielded six big rolls of masking tape.

And, finally, I climbed on the airplane with the Idiot Dog, and flew off to Georgia. And then the waiting began..... and restful sleep went right out the window.

So, I arrived on 17 December, last Wednesday. Thursday and Friday were spent recovering from jet lag, and circulating in the local area to look at houses, and the neighborhoods that they're in. More of the same on Saturday and Sunday. We currently have two possibles that we've actually seen the insides of, and only one of those is suitable. Our Georgia real estate agent has four more for us to see next Monday.

Well, last night, whilst waiting in line at the local Publix super market, my cell phone rang, and it was Nancy, our California real estate agent. Our California house went on the market Monday. Nancy received a real, live, honest to Scrooge offer on Tuesday, which Mrs. OWW and myself decided was More Than Good Enough. The place is SOLD!

I'm still not sleeping well, but now it's exhiliration instead of worry.

For now, anyway. We still have to buy a place.....

In the meantime, today it's off to Cocoa Beach we go, for Christmas with the In-laws. Merry Christmas to all of you, and a happy, healthy, prosperous New Year.

Sounds: None. It's Oh-Dark_Hundred
