- - - - - Illegal Immigrants Sue WalMart - - - - -
Illegal immigrants from Mexico are suing WalMart for discrimination. They weren't employed by WalMart, but were employed by contractors who provided janitorial services to WalMart.
I'm going to repeat myself, with a slightly different word choice. These criminals (illegal immigrant=criminal) are suing the employer of their employer for discrimination.
Listen up, chowder-head. You have no right to be here. You have broken the law of the land, and are being sent back to Mexico. What gives you the right to sue for discrimination when you are engaged in criminal activity?
Grrrrrr......they will probably win a fair-sized settlement.
See the story HERE.

Found this one in the dead tree Sunday edition of the San Jose Mercury-News, AKA The Murky Gnus.
"Center for the Cure of SWEATY PALMS". HERE is their web-site.
My, my, my. (Imagine OWW shaking his head in disbelief. And this one is in the Business section!)
- - - - - UN Summit Conference on Information Technology - - - - -
"Who controls the Internet and how richer nations should subsidize its growth in poorer countries are central issues dividing planners a month ahead of the first U.N. summit on information technology."
See the full story HERE. Better be quick though - the Murky Gnus will allow access for only a week, then it goes into the archives and becomes a "pay per view" type of thing. If I can find a second, more-or-less permanent source for the story, I'll update the link.
OWW's view: Giving the UN control or influence over a medium like the Internet has big-time free speech implications. In general, the UN's position on free speech is somewhat vague, and certainly not as firm as the United States' position. Remember how the French bullies Yahoo and Ebay on Nazi-era items? (Disclaimer: I don't want any Nazi items. I despise the Nazis, and those who admire them. But free speech is free speech, even if I despise the subject, author, or philosophy.)
Secondly, the UN's record of fiscal management is, ummmm, somewhat less than stellar, shall we say?
