- - - - - I'm Grouchy About Calif Politics - - - - -

Today is Sunday, which means that the "Perspective" section of the local rag (San Jose Mercury News Editorials, link HERE) gets OWW's gimlet-eyed attention.

I have found at least one reference to "Gropernator" (Fairly funny, E. German judge gives 5.3) but NO reference to the timing of these "revelations".

Previously, I have said that I oppose the recall, because Gray Davis hasn't done anything provable in the way of "crimes and misdemeanors" while in office, and a recall is therefore not justified.

Given the timing of these allegations, and the deafening silence of the SJMN on the timing, I am now considering going YES on the recall, and selecting Arnold. Why? If the LA Times and the SJ MN are being the "watchdogs of the public interest" and NOT poking into the timing of these allegations, or at least questioning them, then my suspicion is that they are consciously aiding Gray Davis, in a rather under-handed sort of way.

The LA Times and the SJ MN are supposed to report the news, not make the news. My suspicion is that these allegations are manufactured from whole cloth, and the newspapers are not investigating the souces of these allegations as they should.

Therefore, I now say YES on the Recall of Gray Davis. Select Arnold as his sucessor. And be damned to the newspapers and other media who definitely are not doing their jobs.
