Intel has recently shipped it's One Billionth Chip. Quite an impressive accomplishment... it took them 25 years to reach the billions, but they estimate that they will hit 2 billion by only 2007. The San Jose Business Journal has the story HERE. This is quite an accomplishment, although the story isn't quite correct. The original shipping Intel microprocessor was the 4004, used in a calculator made by a Japanese outfit called Busicom.
As a matter of fact, I recently went on a field trip with my daughter's 3rd/4rth/5th grade class to the Intel Museum in Santa Clara. Most illuminating and fun. I didn't even lose what's left of my sanity..... Ò¿Ö
