Took a break from CNN/Fox/MSNBC/ABC/Etc, and did an install of RedHat 9 today.

And...it worked! Yay! Whoopeee!

In the recent past I've tried Mandrake 8, RedHat 8, and Slackware 8.1, all to no avail. This has been due to my motherboard, an Intel 845 GBV. And now, RedHat 9 Just Works. No muss, no fuss, no bother. Didn't cost me a dime, either. I just downloaded from the UCLA Linux User's Group FTP site (which took a looooong time), burned the ISOs onto 3 CDs, stuck the "experimental" drive into the drive tray thingie, and rebooted. And the installation just worked. I like that. Now, I'll play with it, and learn all the command line stuff I have determined that I Really Need To Know.

It's really convenient to have a Safeway within 5 minutes of our house. That's 10 minutes walk time, if I'm feeling frisky. But Lunardi's has opened a store within 15 minutes driving time. And ooooooo.....they've got the Good Stuff! So for dinner, we had some really good pork chops, and fresh corn-on-the-cob that they got from God knows where at this time of year. For the same price, +/- $1.00 total, that Safeway gives for so-so stuff.

Yum!

OK, I really couldn't pass this one up.

The Iraqi Information Minister is saying that reports of US Troops in downtown Baghdad are completely false.

Whatever you say, Bubba. Whatever you say.
