Went to visit some friends who are packing for their Great Move from San Jose CA to Austin TX. Boxes full of Stuff all over the place. That's going to be quite a change for them. They will be going from a "manufactured home" (read "double-wide trailer") that they own on a dinky little parcel that they rent to a real, live, honest-to-mortgage house. They've seen places like this: 2400 Sq Ft, 3-car garage, in-ground pool, on 1.5 acres. Cost about $300K. The same house here in SJ, on that 1.5 acres, IF you could find one at all, would go for minimum $1.5M!

We're gonna look into this. SWMBO has a job at Major Corp that has operations all over the US. Major Corp has operations in TX. My skill-set can be transferred anywhere (presuming there's any jobs available at all). We could hammer the joint we're in now for a profit of $100K - $125K. With that for a down-stroke, and with what SWMBO makes, we could easily afford the above. When I start working again, well, that's gravy!

The question remains, do we want to do this? Uproot the kids and us (alleged) growed-ups and take off for Texas? This is really going to take some thought. Like it or not, California is different, and mostly in very good ways. Do we want to give that up?
