Woke up this morning, and Guess What? No DSL.
Well, phooie!
I guess we've been spoiled by having instant-on, fast-Fast-FAST access to our email and internet services. I'm really reluctant to dig out ye olde 56K modem, 'cause it's painfully slow, but if this disconnect continues for much more than an hour or so, I'll have to.
Phooie again.
Our computers are set up with Win2K Pro, running through a LinkSys router to the DSL modem - a generally very reliable setup.
So I called SBC, and they tell me that the "Redback" that serves our area is having a problem. A "Redback" is a high capacity, very fast, very expen$ive router, and when one goes kerblooie, it can take a while to bring the network segment back up.
Phooie. I want my connectivity back! Waaaaaaaa!

DSL is still down.
Phooie.
Set up the dial-up connection for SWMBO. 56K modem speeds suck rocks. We've really been spoiled by the good speeds of DSL. Sure hope they get it fixed soon.

For our wild and crazy New Year's Celebration, I took SWMBO and the Midget Monsters out for dinner to Outback. Good Food + Good Service = Winning Combination. Home by 9:30PM, and now we're waiting for the Big Minute. At midnight, the plan is to beat the old pots and pans and lids together to make an outrageous racket for a minute or two, and then call it a night and a year.
Quite a change from years past, Thank You Very Much!
Spoke to my Pop - he and his lady friend are planning on Shiitake 'shrooms, wine, and champagne at the tolling of the bell. Sounds cool, and fairly calm to me.
